I LIKE TO NAVIGATE
ON THE FRONTIER BETWEEN THE FINE
AND DECORATIVE ARTS.

Bonieux mixes media in her works, often using fibreglass, plexiglass, resin, metal leaf, pigments, and candy among others.

Her inspirations are rooted in both her Mauritian upbringing — with natural and organic elements proliferating throughout her works — and various mythical, historical, and literary references as she incorporates deities and symbols across different cultural contexts into her visual narratives.

AN EXCERPT FROM
HER LAST SOLO SHOW,
THE SEASONS OF
GENEVIEVE BONIEUX:
A PORTRAIT OF
WOMANHOOD (2026)
Her pieces are concerned with female visibility, particularly in the passage from girlhood to womanhood. This retrospective examines them as a dialogue in how women are seen and what society expects to see: woman as the object and the agent of desire in unresolved tension. It questions the boundaries of that expectation and, in connection to how we perceive womanhood, the boundary between art as either object or decoration.
